CoolerThanDave! - Sunday, April 27, 2003

Cool_Dave recently wrote an article about being cool. Because I am CoolerThanDave, I figured I would throw my two cents in.

Coolness definitely has a lot to do with perception. Dave is right, just adding ‘Cool’ to your name does not automatically make you cool, but since perception is everything on IRC, there is no doubt that it makes a difference. A bigger factor than that though is confidence. If you do not have confidence in yourself, you cannot get to the real coolness level. I’ve heard guys complain about how the women always go for the real jerks. This maybe true in a lot of cases, but those jerks have a certain level of confidence that is appealing to women, or vice-versa. Names like Fear_Taz not only show a certain level of confidence in ones self, but also because wrestling fans generally like Taz, it adds another level to you right off of the bat. If you want to be cool, just stay real, believe in yourself and know that you will make mistakes but don’t worry about it. Keep on going and before you even know it, you too can be cool.

Just so the start of this article makes a little more since, one day I decided to change my IRC handle to CoolerThanDave just to get to him. Due to Dave’s level of confidence in himself, he never led on that it bothered him, but I know the truth, he was scared shitless of my new awesome level of coolness. Proxi the cause of #WWF's death? - Thursday, April 17, 2003

On April 15, my fellow columnist Heather, wrote an article talking about how Proxi, #wwf and #wwfsuperstars's owner, has driven her channels into the ground. I have to come out and respectably disagree with her on this issue. Just to make it clear, I was an AOP in #wwfsuperstars from about the winter of 97 through 2000 or 2001. In Heather's column, she talked about how Proxi kicked out all of the good ops. When I came on the scene in #wwfsuperstars, several of the so-called "good ops" were still in charge. Soon after, Proxi deoped chatters like Ut and GamerX. A guy by the name of {^Paul^} and myself were chosen to help fill the void and were made AOPs. I have never gotten into the political issue of whether removing them was the best thing for the channel or not, but I can tell you that at least one channel was created, #hoh, specifically as an anti-Proxi channel. Now this tells me something about the mentality of the people who were deoped. I see it differently than Heather does as to why the number of people in #wwf / #wwfsuperstars and the other wrestling chat rooms have gone down in Dalnet land.

* Number 1: Recently there have been attacks against Dalnet servers. While a lot of these issues have been cleared up, I think it has kept people away.

* Number 2: Wrestling just isn't as popular now as it was a few years ago.

* Number 3: Chat rooms just aren't as popular anymore.

It is sad to say but #wwfsuperstars is dead. It appears that the people from that channel, have moved to #wwf since Proxi has taken it over so I'll mainly talk about #wwf. While I DO see a lot of people coming and going in that channel, there is not a lot of talking going on except for myself and {^Paul^}. While Heather and others say that Proxi kicked out all of the good ops, I don't see why people take things so personally about if they have power in a channel or not. This is all in good fun and maybe Proxi takes it a bit too seriously but still. If you talk with Proxi, you will find out that it isn't easy to get AOP's in her channel specifically because she wants them to come around and actually kick people out when they need to be. If you are not going to do that, then you loose your power. Also she does not like to give AOP's power due to what has happened in the past. So many of her former ops now hate her. Why would she want to create more enemies by making them AOP's? You can listen to Heather and others that say Proxi was the death of her channels but try to step back and look at the bigger picture. Under Proxi's leadership, #wwfsuperstars have had over 100 people in the channel for Play-By-Play of wrestling pay-per-views. She also took the time to look for good people to do PBP's on these matches. Proxi only allows people who care about the channel to be in charge and she gets rid of the bad apples. Agree or disagree with me, Proxi is one of the most dedicated people to her channels out of anyone I have seen, and that even includes Cool_Dave who I've determined has no life. Sorry Dave. She cares about wrestling and cares about chatting so I think credit needs to be given where credit is due. Take this for what you will, and have a great week.
